Loquats are a specialty of southern Chiba’s Boso Peninsula. This souvenir combines a gentle loquat flavor with smooth chocolate, making it an approachable choice even for people unfamiliar with the fruit. I bought it at Michi-no-Eki Furari Tomiyama.
Ohinata Biwa-chan (Showa Bussan)
A box contains 15 pieces and costs 380 yen. The palm-sized yellow package features the cheerful Ohinata Biwa-chan character, and the top is shaped like the stem of a loquat.
The best-before date is printed on the package and was about three months from purchase.
Opening the loquat-shaped top reveals another cute illustration and message.
The pale-yellow chocolates are about 4 cm across.

The chocolate has a pleasant snap, followed by a delicate loquat aroma and a mellow, milky texture. It is moderately sweet with a clean finish. The loquat flavor is subtle and free of any strong aftertaste, so even people who are not fond of loquats may enjoy it.
