A collaboration product like this is convenient in such situations.
Calbee Chiba Sanga-yaki Flavor Potato Chips
I bought them at Ichihara SA.
The package background may depict the sea, and the photograph of sanga-yaki looks delicious.
Sanga-yaki is a Chiba dish made by finely chopping fish such as horse mackerel or sardines with miso, shaping the mixture, and grilling it.
The version pictured is wrapped in shiso.
Perhaps it is like a fish hamburger seasoned with miso.
This was a limited-time release in Calbee’s regional potato-chip campaign.
My Review of Calbee Chiba Sanga-yaki Flavor Potato Chips
They have a wonderful miso aroma.
As Calbee chips, their usual crisp texture is beyond criticism. The flavor is approachable without tasting overly fishy.
Toasted miso and refreshing shiso are key accents. Miso-flavored chips are unusual, so this feels fresh; potatoes and miso are actually an excellent match.
If even the potato-chip version is this good, authentic sanga-yaki must be delicious.
Next time, I want to try the real dish known as a taste of Chiba.
