Chiba produces many delicious varieties of shiokara. Regional versions are often sold at roadside stations and Fusa-no-Eki shops, making shiokara a recommended Boso Peninsula souvenir.
It unquestionably matches white rice, so I buy it whenever I find it. When I saw shiokara in the Ichihara Service Area souvenir shop, I had to try it.
The producer is in Kamogawa, so the squid may come from waters around that area.

I found this refrigerated product at Ichihara SA. It costs ¥648.
I wondered how “squid sashimi” shiokara differs from ordinary shiokara.
Keep refrigerated at 10°C or below. The shelf life is 60 days from production.
The jar contains 130 grams.
My Review of the White-Style Squid Sashimi Shiokara
Its color is lighter than ordinary shiokara. Perhaps that is what “white style” means.
The thick, rich liver sauce clings to the squid, producing abundant flavor.
The squid is tender and very delicious.
Its characteristic saltiness makes it perfect with white rice or as a snack with drinks.
It is also excellent served over grated daikon, which I recommend.
At ¥648 it is easy to buy, so give it a try if you see it.
