Japanese-Style Tororo Soup with Gagome Kelp by Yamasu: A Luxurious Broth Whose Deep Dashi Flavor Warms the Stomach

The product introduced here is definitely a souvenir to enjoy at home.

Chiba Prefecture has several roadside stations, Fusa no Eki shops, and other places to buy souvenirs. At many of them, samples from this series of soups containing gagome kelp are offered with surprising frequency.

Naturally, I try a sample every time, and it is always delicious. I wondered whether it tasted especially good because I was drinking just one small cup during a drive, but eventually I wanted to enjoy it properly at home and bought a bag.

The experience made me realize that repeated samples really can turn a shopper into a fan.

I bought this one at Kamagaya Fusa no Eki.

As mentioned above, this type of instant soup may be particularly popular in Chiba, because I often see it in local shops.

A thermos of hot water and paper cups are usually prepared beside the display so visitors can taste a sample.

The resealable bag is practical and prevents the contents from drying out.
Through the transparent package, you can see the many different varieties of seaweed.

The bag contains 75 grams and cost around 500 yen.
The best-before date is printed on the back; mine was about 150 days after purchase.

What Does Yamasu’s Japanese-Style Tororo Soup with Gagome Kelp Taste Like?

Let us prepare a bowl.

First, place one tablespoon of the mixture in a soup bowl.

Pour in 150 milliliters of boiling water, and the soup is ready.

The wakame and mekabu seaweed retain an enjoyable crisp texture.
The green onion also has a noticeable presence and tastes excellent.
Because the blend contains gagome kelp, the soup develops a gentle, pleasantly thick consistency.

Chicken extract forms the base of the broth, while the many types of seaweed contribute layers of savory umami. The warm flavor seems to soak into a tired stomach.

There is enough in one bag for a whole family, and it could also be divided up or given as a practical small gift.

It would work in several variations, such as adding glass noodles, so I am looking forward to finding more ways to use it.

I will probably keep accepting a sample whenever I see it, but for now, thank you for the meal!
