Peanuts are a fascinating ingredient because they pair equally well with sweet and savory flavors.
Chiba Prefecture is one of Japan’s major peanut-producing regions, so its souvenir shops are packed with peanut products, ranging from desserts to salty snacks that look perfect with a drink.
I had already tried many of them, but one product called Chibaribari kept appearing in shops throughout the prefecture. I finally bought a bag at Noro Parking Area (Inbound).
Thinking back, this was actually my first combination of chips and peanuts.
From Peanuts Monaka to combinations with tai miso, tarts, chocolate, honey, and rice crackers, peanuts had worked beautifully every time. Here is how Chibaribari compared.
Chibaribari Peanut Salt Butter Chips (Nanohana no Sato)
The glittering gold bag has the characters for “Chiba” printed in enormous letters, creating an exceptionally striking package.
And what exactly are peanut butter chips? There were so many questions that I could not leave without buying them.
The bag itself has a premium, Japanese-paper-like texture.
A decorative cord is even attached at the top, adding a stylish touch.
The back is just as dazzlingly gold.
The best-before date is printed near the bottom. The bag I purchased had about three months remaining.
The product is made by Nanohana no Sato. I had previously enjoyed the company’s Boso Shrimp Rice Crackers as well.
The package includes a proper tear notch.

What did Chibaribari taste like?
So this is Chibaribari.
They look like pale rice crackers.
Now, let’s eat.
The flavor and texture resemble fried shrimp crackers: loud, rugged crunch followed by lighter crispness.
The rich salt-butter seasoning combines deliciously with the savory seafood flavor of shrimp and scallop.
Small, firm pieces of peanut add another addictive texture. Knowing that the chips use generous quantities of Chiba-grown peanuts also makes them feel especially luxurious.
If someone asks what flavor Chibaribari is, the answer is surprisingly difficult to explain.
Butter, seafood dashi, and peanuts simply come together in a wonderfully harmonious way.
I could not stop reaching for more, and the whole family loved them.
The name Chibaribari is memorable, and the product is full of Chiba character, making it an excellent souvenir.
I have often thought regional potato chips are fine for people close to you, but Chibaribari’s premium packaging and richer flavor make it suitable for a wider range of gifts.
