Chiba-kun Sweet Peanut-Age by Yamasu: Light, Fluffy, Crisp Snacks Good Enough to Sell without the Character

チーバくんピーナッツ揚げパッケージ

Chiba-kun is the official mascot of Chiba Prefecture. He is charming and probably has a great many fans. Chiba City has a dedicated Chiba-kun product shop, while roadside stations throughout the prefecture generally carry at least a few related items.

One particularly good place to buy Chiba-kun goods and souvenirs is Fusa no Eki, a privately operated facility resembling a roadside station. It appears to be run by Yamasu, and everything is organized to an impressively high standard. It has become one of my favorite places to shop.

I bought the Chiba-kun product reviewed here at Kamagaya Fusa no Eki.

Chiba-kun Sweet Peanut-Age by Yamasu

A package containing five small bags costs 360 yen.

Chiba-kun Peanut-Age package

The vivid red outer package is covered with Chiba Prefecture’s promotional character, Chiba-kun.
With Funassyi as well, Chiba seems blessed with an abundance of cute mascots.

Chiba-kun looks like a dog, does he not?
When I investigated, however, I discovered that he is not officially a dog.
He is described simply as a mysterious creature who lives in Chiba.
I had no idea. I had always wondered why a dog would be bright red, but that explanation makes perfect sense!

Back of the Chiba-kun Peanut-Age package

The best-before date is printed on the back and was about three months after purchase.

There are five individual bags inside.

How Does Chiba-kun Peanut-Age Taste?

Chiba-kun Peanut-Age snacks

Let us try them.

These small, bite-size rice crackers are wonderfully crisp and light. Compared with ordinary okaki sold in many shops, their texture is noticeably airier, softer, and more delicate.

The seasoning powder is distributed evenly, providing gentle sweetness and just the right amount of salt.
Small pieces of peanut also make their presence clearly felt.

Although each packet is compact, it contains plenty of pieces and feels surprisingly satisfying.

The package features one of Chiba’s most popular characters, and five bags for this price represent excellent value. It is an easy souvenir to recommend.

They were delicious.
Thank you for the treat!
