Boso Shrimp Senbei are a common sight in Chiba souvenir sections, so they must be something of a local specialty. I had tried samples several times at store tasting counters, and because they were always so delicious, I finally bought a box.
Samples were available at places such as Ichihara Service Area, but I made this purchase at the newly opened Michi-no-Eki Umakuta no Sato in Kisarazu.
I hesitated more than once because buying a whole box of sweets can encourage overeating. Yet for this level of satisfaction, I should have bought them much sooner.
Writing these blog articles also makes me realize how often I choose shrimp-related products. In truth, I would like to eat real Japanese spiny lobster every day.
Boso Shrimp Senbei (Nanohana no Sato)
Two sizes are available: 18 pieces for 756 yen and 30 pieces for 1,231 yen.
The wrapping paper has a luxurious feel, with dynamic illustrations of shrimp and the sea. Bold brushstrokes capture the vigorous energy of the shrimp particularly well.
The best-before date is printed on the back. The crackers keep for about 60 days.
Shrimp powder and minced Japanese spiny lobster are listed among the ingredients. A generous amount of shrimp clearly goes into them.
Every cracker is individually wrapped.
The product name appears on each wrapper, and the red-and-gold design has an elegant Japanese character. They are very easy to hand out.

What Do Boso Shrimp Senbei Taste Like?
The cracker is thin but quite firm, with a finely textured surface.
Time to taste it.
Although the bite is crunchy like a thin-baked cookie, the shrimp flavor is remarkably intense. This was a new kind of deliciousness for me.
The texture and mild sweetness of cashew nuts give it a slightly cookie-like impression, but the saltiness confirms that it is still very much a shrimp cracker.
It feels as though particles of nuts and minced shrimp have been tightly pressed together and baked, creating an unusual texture.
The more you chew, the more waves of shrimp sweetness, savory flavor, and richness arrive.
Despite being a small, thin cracker, one piece delivers a full shrimp experience and feels surprisingly substantial.
Shrimp lovers are likely to become hooked after a single taste.
