Turban Shell Kamameshi Mix (Kosei Suisan): A Rice Mix Rich in Seaside Aroma and Flavor

サザエ釜飯パッケージ

Around Ichihara, Chiba, you can encounter outstanding products from across the prefecture.

The choice can make souvenir shopping difficult, but it also lets you compare sweets, rice dishes, pickles, and much more.

I found this Turban Shell Kamameshi Mix at the attractive souvenir shop in inbound Ichihara SA. I will also introduce the soup accompaniment that paired well with it.

Turban Shell Kamameshi Mix by Kosei Suisan

Turban shell kamameshi package

Turban shell kamameshi is unusual, which immediately made me curious.

Back of kamameshi package

The best-before date is printed on the back. At purchase, it seemed to keep for about six months.

Contents of kamameshi mix

You can see plenty of turban shell inside.
One packet seasons three cups of rice.

Kamameshi before cooking

I set everything up according to the instructions.

Freshly cooked kamameshi

The rice is cooked.
Mix it gently without crushing the grains.

Kamameshi served

Time to eat.

Finished turban shell kamameshi

A seaside aroma fills the mouth.
Turban shell broth has soaked into every grain of rice.
There are many slices of shellfish, giving it a satisfying presence.

Their firm, springy bite makes you feel that you are truly eating turban shell kamameshi.

The faintly sweet soy seasoning brings out the shellfish flavor beautifully.

At the same shop, I also bought:

Aosa Powder to Enjoy with Turban Shell Kamameshi (Seiwa Bussan)

Aosa powder

I believe it cost around ¥500.

Large amount of aosa powder

As you can see, the bag contains a tremendous amount. It was affordable and light, so I bought it thinking it would be good in miso soup.

Back of aosa powder package

The date is printed on the back and was similar to the kamameshi mix.

Aosa powder in miso soup

I added it to miso soup, but it sank.

Finished aosa miso soup

Because the powder sank immediately, I stirred with chopsticks and hurried to take the photograph.

I served it with the turban shell rice.

Turban shell rice with aosa miso soup

This powder is closer to aonori than the aosa seaweed found in sushi-shop miso soup.

I had mistakenly assumed aosa and aosa powder were the same thing.

Unlike aosa, this powder leaves a gritty texture in the mouth and is not especially suited to miso soup.

Its aroma is good, so I plan to use it like aonori, sprinkling it over yakisoba or mixing it into rolled omelets.

The amount offers excellent value, so it is recommended for anyone who likes aonori.
