Sometimes, when giving someone a souvenir, you want to add one more small item. If you know the family makeup of the recipient, you may have selected something mainly for the adults and then realize you would also like a treat for the children.
At such times, regional novelty items are worth checking. They may lean slightly toward the playful side, but they work well as an addition to a more substantial gift.
These MAX Coffee Drops caught my eye because of a flashy sign declaring them exclusive to Ichihara Service Area (Outbound).

Cookies, chocolates, jelly, cakes, and many other MAX Boso Coffee products were piled high in the shop.
I chose the drops from among them. I also bought the baked cookies, so anyone interested can see the article below.

MAX Boso Coffee Drops (Sawarabi)
An 85-gram tin cost 291 yen.

MAX Coffee is famous for its powerful sweetness.
The package uses the yellow background and black lettering that have become symbols of the drink, along with illustrations of coffee beans.

The best-before date is printed on the bottom of the tin. From the purchase date, it had about nine months remaining.
Condensed milk—the ingredient said to create MAX Coffee’s unmistakable sweetness—appears properly in the ingredient list.

The candy looks more translucent than I expected.
I had imagined a more opaque, milky color.
Each piece is slightly smaller than an ordinary hard candy, making it easy to eat.
When I tried one, there it was: the unmistakable flavor of intensely sweet MAX Coffee. These captured the drink more clearly than the baked cookies did.
The coffee aroma is properly present, and the mellow condensed-milk note is excellent.
Even children who dislike bitter coffee can enjoy them. My own child happily ate one after another.
One candy offers a comforting moment when you are tired, making these MAX Boso Coffee Drops the kind of tin you may want to keep on your desk or in the car.
Thank you for the treat!
