The Statue of Liberty and “New York Mayonnaise” are hardly the sort of name and imagery you would expect to see on a bag of Japanese okaki rice snacks—which is exactly why the product caught my attention.
I have introduced other items in Sanshin’s Oishii Oyatsu series before, and this is another variety worth sharing. The packaging is cute and amusing, and the rice snacks themselves are delicious, making it an ideal little souvenir.

A 90 g bag costs ¥162.
Although this is a local Chiba snack, it bears the wonderfully unexpected name “New York Mayonnaise.”
Then there is the striking, realistic illustration of the Statue of Liberty!
The red bag is actually partly transparent, allowing you to catch a faint glimpse of the snacks inside. It is a fun piece of packaging, and the kind of design that makes me pick up the bag without thinking twice.
The best-before date is printed on the back. The bag I purchased had about a month and a half remaining.
It also has a tear notch, so opening the package is easy.
My impressions after trying Statue of Liberty New York Mayonnaise Oishii Oyatsu
Now, let’s give it a try!
They look like ordinary twisted fried rice crackers, but their texture is delightfully light, crisp, and crunchy.
The gently sweet mayonnaise flavor is wonderfully addictive.
At first it seems mild and mellow, but then a sharp touch of mustard arrives afterward and gives it a pleasant kick.
This is the kind of flavor that makes it difficult to stop eating.
The seasoning powder settles into every groove of the twisted crackers, making each piece especially flavorful and delicious.
They work equally well as an afternoon snack for children or as something savory for adults to enjoy with a drink.
The bag is generously filled yet costs only ¥162, so I also recommend it as an affordable souvenir from Chiba.
