When it comes to souvenirs, I think checking out local specialties and unique products is the first step. Even if it’s something you’re giving to someone else, a souvenir conveys a simple message of where you visited.
For Chiba Prefecture, peanuts, pears, and spiny lobster are the iconic specialties that come to mind. You’ll find plenty of related products in the souvenir shops.
The product I’m introducing today is a luxurious item that includes two of these local specialties.
It’s a collaboration between Tai Miso, the top souvenir near the Tai no Ura area in Chiba, and the prefecture’s famous peanuts.
I found it at the Noro PA (upbound) in Chiba and decided to give it a try.
Tai Miso Peanuts (Kameya Honten)
This product is made by Kameya Honten, a company famous for their tai senbei. Knowing their reputation, the quality is assured even before tasting. As a side note, Kameya’s octopus senbei is also delicious!
It comes in a container designed to look like a miso barrel. The box is larger than the palm of your hand, but it feels light when you hold it.
It’s labeled as using Kameya’s tai miso.
I’m really curious about what the combination of tai miso and peanuts will taste like.
The expiration date is printed on the back. It was about two months from the purchase date.
There are 12 small packs of tai miso peanuts inside. While the individual packaging is convenient, I couldn’t help but wish the box was packed more tightly.
Each small pack contains about 8 peanuts. The portion size is perfect for finishing in one go, which is nice. ^_^
My Thoughts on Tasting Tai Miso Peanuts
Alright, let’s dig in.
The peanuts are coated with sugar, and since they have the skins on, the crunchy texture is really enjoyable.
The rich flavor of the peanuts and the savory tai miso spread throughout your mouth. The sweet and salty taste makes it perfect as a snack with drinks! Once you have one, you can’t stop. ^^
If you enjoy a good drink, this is definitely worth trying!
I enjoyed these with whiskey, and they were delicious. Honestly, with this volume, they were gone after just two glasses of whiskey. I’d love to see a larger pack available. Thank you for the treat!
When you think of Chiba, peanuts are the go-to, but for those who are getting tired of plain peanuts and want to try something a little different, this is a great choice.
There are plenty of other attractive souvenirs from Chiba. Be sure to check out the recommendations below as well.
