Max Coffee Baked Cookies (Ichihara SA Exclusive): How Does This Local Collaboration Taste?

Max Coffee is a familiar canned coffee in eastern Tokyo, Chiba, and Ibaraki.

Its intense sweetness can be surprising if you are not prepared for the flavor.

Even the can design seems to express that bold character, making it a highly memorable product.

When I learned that Max Coffee cookies were available, curiosity got the better of me and I bought a box.

I found them at Ichihara Service Area on the outbound side of the Tateyama Expressway.

The display makes a huge impact.

The package looks as though the can design was transferred directly onto a box.

It occupied a prominent island display, so it must be one of the shop’s featured products.

Open the lid and the cookies are neatly arranged like a slightly upscale boxed confection.

Naturally, each one is individually wrapped.

From the appearance, I had imagined some kind of thick caramel filling, but there was nothing like that inside.

How Do Max Coffee Baked Cookies Taste?

My first impression was, “Was Max Coffee really this mild?”

I remember the drink being almost overwhelmingly sweet, but the cookies were not like that at all.

On the other hand, that also left me wondering whether they had enough Max Coffee character.

I thought perhaps eating too many sweets had confused my palate, but several other people tried them and gave essentially the same opinion.

For better or worse, they are ordinary cookies. Was I the only one hoping for a much stronger Max Coffee flavor?

Perhaps they are primarily a novelty, with the entertaining package as their main attraction.

A little caution may be needed if giving them to a serious food-loving friend. Still, they are excellent as a conversation piece, and the Max Coffee name alone will appeal to fans.
