Whenever I choose souvenirs, I always check for products designed to accompany rice.
Boxed sweets are tempting because so many are delicious, but I tend to eat too many. Whenever possible, I actively choose a local savory product that goes well with rice instead.
On a trip to Saitama, I found such a product made with Fukaya green onions and decided to buy it.
I purchased it at Hasuda Service Area on the outbound side.
Fukaya Green Onion Miso for Rice
I am sorry that I do not remember the exact price, but I believe it was around ¥400.
The best-before period was about two months from purchase, and it can be stored at room temperature.
The package features Fukkachan, Fukaya’s adorable mascot.
The photograph of green onion miso on white rice is tempting too!
The package contains a respectable 120 grams.

I assumed it was simply green onion miso, but the ingredient list includes nozawana greens, lotus root, eggplant, cucumber, and several other vegetables in addition to the onions!

Inside the paper package is a vacuum-sealed pouch of miso.
It was sold at room temperature, but once opened, transferring it to a jar and refrigerating it seems best.

I immediately spooned some onto white rice.
The miso is sweet, while a little chili heat keeps the rice disappearing.
I was also happy to find plenty of Fukaya green onion.
Against the tender onion, the crisp and crunchy textures of nozawana, lotus root, eggplant, and cucumber provide accents that keep this savory miso interesting.
People who enjoy a drink could happily savor the miso by itself.

It was also delicious spooned over tofu instead of soy sauce. A great snack with drinks!
Fukkachan is cute, the price is reasonable, and I recommend this Fukaya Green Onion Miso for Rice!
