When traveling or visiting a leisure destination, an original local product is often the most appealing kind of souvenir. A souvenir should communicate where you have been, and when an item is exclusive to a limited number of locations, receiving it feels even more special. We have introduced several souvenirs from Izu Animal Kingdom, but the “Animal Kingdom Mini Baumkuchen” featured here is a completely original product. It was stacked beside a sign reading “Our Recommendation” and clearly introduced as an Animal Kingdom exclusive, so there is little doubt about that. A white tiger, the park’s symbolic animal, appears prominently on the package, making the origin immediately recognizable. I bought it to see what it was like and hope this review helps anyone considering the same souvenir.
Animal Kingdom Mini Baumkuchen by Fujiboshi
A box of eight costs ¥550. 
The hexagonal box is about the size of an adult palm. Its design features the white tiger, the most popular animal at Animal Kingdom. 
Giraffes and zebras appear on it too (^^) This box is so cute! 
The best-before date is printed on the back and is approximately two months away. 
The box contains four individually wrapped pieces in brown packaging and four in white packaging. 
Inside the Animal Kingdom Mini Baumkuchen box and how the cakes taste
I will start by opening the white-chocolate variety. 
I had kept it at room temperature, so the chocolate coating had melted slightly. 
Now, let’s taste it. The baumkuchen has a pleasantly crisp yet tender crumb, with nostalgic-tasting buttercream inside. The white-chocolate coating has a mild sweetness and a smooth, mellow mouthfeel. 
The milk-chocolate variety tastes a little like familiar Japanese candy-shop chocolate. The cake is crisp yet moist, and the overall flavor reminds me of the UFO chocolates I ate long ago! I do not dislike this kind of nostalgic taste at all (^｡^) My children enjoyed it too. The room was below 28°C, but the chocolate had still softened, so chilling the cakes in the refrigerator before eating would be a good idea (^^) The box was so cute that I could not bring myself to throw it away; for a while, my children used it to store small treasures. With its affordable price, suitability as either a whole-box gift or individual handouts, adorable package, and status as an original product, this was an excellent souvenir. Thank you for the treat!
