One of the local Aomori souvenirs I always want to buy is the squid rice cracker from OK Seika, which I have introduced before. It has become increasingly well known in recent years and is now a popular product. I am a huge fan of OK Seika’s squid crackers, so whenever I visit Aomori I usually buy plenty for friends, relatives, and my own household. This time, however, they were unexpectedly sold out… Apparently, during the homecoming season in recent years, they have become so popular that you need to reserve them in advance or they may sell out! That makes sense, because people are genuinely delighted when I give them as gifts. So I gave up on the squid crackers this time and bought the peanut variety of OK Senbei from the shelf next to them instead (^^) I found them at a large Aomori supermarket called Kabu Center—perhaps Kabu Foods!

A small illustration of a goldfish-shaped Neputa float appears on the package. The plain, unpretentious design feels wonderfully local! The best-before date is printed on the front; mine was about three months from the purchase date. 
What do OK Senbei Peanut Rice Crackers taste like?
My expectations were high because these are made by OK Seika, whose squid crackers I consider overwhelmingly delicious even among all the squid crackers available. Now, let’s give them a try! 
Just looking at one, you can see the astonishing amount of peanuts! The thick-baked cracker has a firm, crunchy bite. It is sweet like a cookie and absolutely loaded with peanuts—so much so that it feels as though you are eating mostly nuts (^^) Among this type of peanut cracker from Aomori, this is probably my favorite! I missed out on the squid crackers, but that disappointment led me to discover OK’s peanut crackers. Their texture and flavor were completely different from the squid variety, of course. Because they are sold at supermarkets, the price is affordable, and since OK Seika is an Aomori company, people were very happy to receive them as souvenirs! They were delicious (^^) Thank you for the treat! Still, if someone asked me to choose between these and the squid crackers, I would probably choose the squid crackers.
