When it comes to Chiba souvenirs, seafood-based products are a must-check.
Being a family of shrimp lovers, we usually gravitate toward anything related to lobster, but this time, it’s all about clams.
Chiba Prefecture indeed has plenty of clamming spots that open up during the season, making it the perfect inspiration for a collaboration with the hugely popular “Baka-Uke” snack.
I found and bought this collaboration item at the Furari Tomiyama stop, a combined highway service area and roadside station.
It’s one of those “can’t-go-wrong” items, so here’s a quick review and introduction!
Chiba Limited Baka-Uke Clam Butter Flavor (Kuriyama Seika)
2 pieces × 8 bags for 430 yen.
The clams on the package look delicious! The background features the sea, giving it a fresh and pleasant design.
The expiration date is listed on the back at the bottom, about two months from the purchase date.
There are illustrations of the Baka-Uke characters as well. Their names are Barin-chan and Borin-kun. If you look closely, they’re wearing a straw hat and headband, digging for clams—it’s so cute!
When you open the bag, the familiar Baka-Uke snacks make their appearance.
The size is the same as the usual Baka-Uke.
What does the Chiba Limited Baka-Uke Clam Butter Flavor taste like?
The whole cracker is mixed with aonori (green laver).
Alright, let’s dig in!
A light, crispy texture. The Baka-Uke seasoning powder on the outside is absolutely delicious! The buttery aroma spreads with each bite, and the clam umami is irresistible. The flavor is richer than the usual Baka-Uke, making it quite addictive! The deep, clam-based dashi flavor is excellent.
After trying this, the regular Baka-Uke might not feel as satisfying anymore!
At 420 yen for 2 pieces × 8 bags, it’s a bit pricey, but it’s so good I could eat it regularly.
It was delicious—thank you!
Chiba Prefecture is a treasure trove of great souvenirs.
