During this summer’s trip to Aomori, I tried collecting souvenirs other than the familiar apples and garlic. Previous articles mainly featured local foods, but this time the subject is peaches. “Peaches from Aomori?” you may wonder, yet Tsugaru peaches are a product to watch. Growers and JA are working to establish the region as a major producer. Aomori currently ranks around tenth nationwide in peach harvest volume, and farmers and agricultural organizations are united in building enthusiasm. Tsugaru peaches are rarely seen in Tokyo supermarkets today, but growing production may eventually lead to wider distribution. I decided to try one souvenir bearing the Tsugaru Peach name: “JA Tsugaru Mirai’s Love-Filled Tsugaru Peach Bouchée,” purchased at the Hiraka Farmers’ Market (Agrias) in Hirakawa City.

The peach character is extremely cute! The package says the illustration was provided by the art club at Aomori Kita High School. It shows excellent taste. The entire box is pink and charming, making it difficult not to pick up. Aomori is famous for apples, but projects like this suggest that peaches are its next rising specialty. The product uses those very Tsugaru peaches. 
Five pieces cost ¥750, and each contains 223 kcal. The best-before date is printed on the back and is approximately two months away. 
Aomori Student Community, or ASC, is reportedly an organization of students working to revitalize Aomori. They likely helped develop this bouchée (^o^) Projects like this make you want to offer support.

Each palm-sized cake feels substantial enough to give out individually. Single pieces are also sold for ¥160.

What did JA Tsugaru Mirai’s love-filled peach bouchée taste like?

The bouchée cake is baked to a fragrant finish and becomes light and fluffy in the mouth. The pink peach cream sandwiched inside has a refreshing peach tartness and tastes wonderfully fruity. Its sweetness is refined and delicious. The clean mouthfeel makes one cake disappear easily, although each contains 223 kcal, so I had to resist a second. Just as the name promises, this bouchée is filled with love for Aomori (^o^) It is sold only in limited places and feels genuinely local, making it excellent as a souvenir. Thank you for the treat.
