I bought this set at a Hokkaido fair in Tokyo. Hokkaido is famous for an extraordinary range of delicious food, but as a devoted shellfish lover, I simply could not walk past the words “crab flavor.”
I have also eaten my way through Hokkaido-style miso ramen at places such as Aji no Tokeidai, Obihirotei, and Obihiro Rocky, and I have yet to encounter a disappointing bowl.
The other variety in this set—scallop in soy sauce broth—was equally intriguing. Judging by the package, it looked almost impossible to go wrong. Still, I tried not to let my expectations climb too high as I quietly paid and took it home.
Hokkaido Ramen: Crab Miso and Scallop Soy Sauce (Made with Hokkaido Wheat and Salt)
The noodles were manufactured by Minamikawa Seimen and the set was sold by Tsurara. Four servings cost 1,380 yen including tax.

Behind the appetizing bowls of Hokkaido ramen are photographs of horsehair crab and scallops. Even though this is packaged ramen, the box has an unexpectedly luxurious air.

The scallops, crab, wheat flour, and even the salt listed among the ingredients all come from Hokkaido. It is Hokkaido through and through—what a luxurious combination!
The best-before date is printed on the back. The set keeps for about 180 days.
The crab miso ramen contains 378 kcal, while the scallop soy sauce ramen contains 391 kcal.

A gold “Hokkaido Limited” sticker is attached to the box—even though I bought it in Tokyo.

Inside are two servings of each flavor.
The individual packets use the same design as the outer box, so you could even split them up and give them to different people.

Naturally, cooking instructions are also printed on the back of each packet.

Each packet contains dried noodles and a soup base.
What Did the Hokkaido Scallop Ramen Taste Like?
I added a pat of butter to the scallop soy sauce ramen.

The broth has a dark, deep soy-sauce color and a Japanese-style base.
It has the gentle sweetness associated with Hokkaido soy sauce, followed by a distinct savory scallop finish.
The butter melted into the soup and matched it beautifully.
Although refreshing rather than heavy, the broth has a complex, layered depth.
The noodles have a pleasantly clean bite and a texture reminiscent of fresh noodles.
What Did the Hokkaido Crab Ramen Taste Like?
Next came the crab-flavored miso ramen. I topped this bowl with corn. 🙂

This broth is a pale-colored miso soup.
Because plenty of crab is used, you can feel tiny particles of crab on your tongue.
The rich broth is full of the shellfish’s savory flavor and natural sweetness.
There is even a deep richness reminiscent of crab tomalley.
It is not overly salty, yet the flavor is wonderfully intense—a rich, rounded soup.
This is concentrated crab deliciousness, and crab lovers will find it irresistible. 🙂
It was so good that I finished every drop of the broth. Completely satisfying!
This is Hokkaido ramen I would happily buy again.
Thank you for the meal.
