Review of Kitaro Senbei
I bought these crackers in the shopping street near Sakaiminato Station.

I found Kitaro Senbei while sightseeing in Tottori and decided to purchase a box. The illustrations of Kitaro and the other yokai certainly have character and are the product’s greatest attraction. As rice crackers, however, they tasted fairly ordinary to me.
The flavor was not bad. It was simply familiar, like a senbei I had eaten somewhere before, and I did not feel that the cracker itself offered a special culinary experience. Anyone buying solely for outstanding flavor may therefore expect too much.
The yokai artwork is a different matter. Fans of Shigeru Mizuki’s characters can enjoy seeing the designs before eating, and the package immediately recalls Sakaiminato’s identity as the home of Kitaro tourism. For a collector or manga enthusiast, that visual appeal may be more important than novelty in the seasoning.
My candid conclusion is that this is a character souvenir first and a gourmet souvenir second. If the recipient loves Kitaro, yokai or Mizuki’s illustrations, it is likely to be a fun gift. If the recipient cares only about the flavor of the rice cracker, there may be stronger choices.
That distinction is not necessarily a weakness. Travel souvenirs often preserve a memory of the place, and these illustrated crackers clearly accomplish that. They provide a light snack while turning the package and each design into a small piece of Sakaiminato culture.
