Aomori Shijimi Ramen by Takasago Foods: A Rich Clam Broth You Will Drink to the Last Drop

青森しじみラーメン

I received this ramen as a souvenir. Apparently, it is sold at an Aomori supermarket called Cub Foods, or Cub Center.

The photograph of ramen topped with shijimi clams looks extremely appetizing. Please note that the serving shown is only an example: actual clam meat is not included. 🙂

Every community seems to have at least one person who loves—or is positively obsessed with—ramen. I am that person, so gifts like this make me genuinely happy. This time it is packaged fresh ramen, but even instant cup noodles would please me. That is how constantly ramen lovers crave ramen.

Through a bowl of ramen, you can experience something of the atmosphere of its home region. I suspect more people enjoy doing that than one might imagine.

Aomori Shijimi Ramen (Takasago Foods)

Back of the Aomori Shijimi Ramen package

The best-before period is about one week.

One serving weighs 166 grams and contains 380.4 kcal.

That is relatively low for ramen.
The broth includes Yamato shijimi from Lake Jusan in Aomori Prefecture. Shrimp and scallop extracts also appear in the ingredients, promising plenty of savory depth.

Opened package of Aomori Shijimi Ramen

The package contains 332 grams, enough for two servings.

What Did Aomori Shijimi Ramen Taste Like?

Finished bowl of Aomori Shijimi Ramen

Green onion was the only topping I had, so the bowl looks rather plain, but it is time to eat.

Lifting the noodles from the shijimi ramen

The noodles are wonderfully springy and chewy.
Although the broth is beautifully clear, it carries an intensely concentrated shijimi stock.

There is almost no oil, so the soup feels light and refreshing, yet the deep clam flavor makes it highly satisfying. 🙂

The broth is so delicious that it hardly needs any toppings. Before I noticed, I had drunk every last drop. The taurine from the shijimi seemed to soak into a stomach tired by everyday overindulgence.

It was a hot day when I prepared the second serving, so I added ice and enjoyed it cold. I also topped it with red leaf lettuce, imitation crab, and shredded nori from the refrigerator.

Cold Aomori Shijimi Ramen

This version was another personal triumph—good enough to serve in a restaurant. 🙂

With no oil in the broth, it is ideally suited to a chilled preparation. The noodles firm up and become smooth, springy, and irresistible, while the shijimi flavor still arrives with tremendous force.

Ramen this delicious deserves to become popular throughout Japan.
One taste and you may be completely hooked. 🙂

Thank you for the meal!
