My impression of Kurumicco

Kurumicco can be purchased from Kamakura Beniya.

A confection enjoyed by all generations

I first received Kurumicco as a souvenir from a colleague before I moved to Kanagawa Prefecture. It is a baked sweet packed with walnuts and caramel. Although it is sweet, the flavor is not heavy or tiring, and I was captivated almost immediately.

I later learned that it had received recognition in a Kanagawa confectionery competition, which seemed entirely convincing after tasting it. Every bite-sized piece is individually wrapped. Two squirrels appear on the wrapper, and their charming design adds to the pleasure of receiving the gift.

After I eventually moved to Kanagawa, one of the first places I visited was Kamakura, where I bought Kurumicco for myself. I also gave pieces to my parents and siblings. They said, “It is so delicious that we are eating it little by little because it feels too precious to finish.” Their response was excellent, and Kurumicco has since become a standard gift whenever I return to my hometown.

Boxes have been sold in quantities such as five, eight and sixteen. Several stores around Kamakura carry them, but their popularity means they can sell out quickly. The sixteen-piece box is particularly sought after, so if you want that size, I recommend shopping as early in the day as possible.

The combination of fragrant walnuts, rich caramel and baked dough creates a satisfying contrast of texture. The individually wrapped portions are convenient for sharing at work or among relatives, while the squirrel motif makes the product unmistakably friendly. Kurumicco is a dependable Kamakura souvenir for recipients of almost any age.
