This is another famous souvenir from Nagoya.
Yukari shrimp crackers are thin, palm-sized crackers with a slightly firmer texture than ordinary thin-baked rice crackers. Because they are made by baking minced shrimp, they are somewhat expensive. The moment you bite one, however, a wonderfully fragrant shrimp flavor fills your mouth, and the taste is exceptional.
Their richness and depth clearly distinguish them from ordinary shrimp crackers. I think only Bankaku Sohompo could produce this flavor, drawing on its history of processing and selling shrimp hanpen—the predecessor of Yukari—which was once presented to the Tokugawa family.
In keeping with Nagoya’s taste for splendor, a Nagoya-exclusive Golden Can is now available, filled with Yukari crackers in a dazzling gold-colored tin.
Its luxurious appearance makes it certain to delight as a souvenir even before it is opened.
