What Story Does Nagasaki Monogatari Tell?
After Christianity was prohibited, children of mixed heritage were exiled to Jagatara, present-day Jakarta, in 1639. Longing for their Japanese homeland, they sent heartfelt letters known as Jagatara-bumi. The wrapping paper of the romantic confection Nagasaki Monogatari uses Koshoro’s Jagatara letter, including the words “How I long for Japan,” reproduced on a sarasa-cloth fukusa. Each sweet wraps up this romantic story and gives it an international flavor for you to enjoy.
As the Nagasaki Monogatari website explains, this is a confection with a genuine historical story.
Although it looks machine-made, the cream is apparently filled into every piece by hand. The finish is so neat that you would never guess.
