The product I’m introducing this time is a traditional candied sweet potato from a long-established shop, given to me as a gift.
Most people have probably tried candied sweet potatoes at least once. Processed versions with a longer shelf life are also sold in supermarkets, so you might have an idea of what they taste like.
However, when it comes to freshly made, authentic candied sweet potatoes, it’s a different story.
Bringing this as a gift shows that you really know your delicious treats.
It’s not for those who dislike sweets, but even if you’re not a huge fan of candied sweet potatoes, the quality is so good that it’s worth trying. That’s why I had to share it!
Oedo Asakusa Oimoyasan Koshin Miyabi (Kawakosho Co.)
It was brought to me right after purchase, still warm and freshly made!
The wrapping paper is simple yet full of Edo-style charm. It gives off a nice vibe, perfect as a Tokyo Asakusa souvenir.
The shelf life is three days, including the day of purchase.
I was surprised when I opened it!
There’s an incredible amount of syrup!
And that shine—it looks absolutely delicious!
When you pick up a piece, a generous amount of syrup drips down. Be careful and skillfully serve it on a plate to avoid making a mess.
My Thoughts on Tasting Oedo Asakusa Oimoyasan Koshin Miyabi
Look at this cross-section.
It’s a vibrant yellow and looks incredibly moist!
When you coat it generously with syrup, the delicious flavor of the sweet potato still shines through, standing up to the richness of the syrup.
Despite the thick coating of syrup, the sweetness isn’t overwhelming—you could keep eating it endlessly!
By the way, here’s the store’s brochure.
This time, I had the “Miyabi” variety, but there are also other types like “Komachi,” “Satsuma,” and “Azuma,” each made with different sweet potato varieties.
If the person you gave it to liked it, you could bring a different variety next time, which makes it a convenient gift option.
The brochure also mentioned that it tastes good chilled, so I tried it the next day. The syrup hardened, giving it a different kind of sweetness, almost like a new dessert! The sweet potato’s flavor also became more pronounced. I highly recommend trying it chilled during the summer!
I’m also curious about their sweet potato cakes and fried sweet potato snacks. Maybe I should hint about how much I enjoyed these and see if I get more.
Koshin’s candied sweet potatoes were absolutely delicious! Thank you! ^_^
