When it comes to souvenirs from Chiba, peanuts are the classic choice.
I’ve already introduced several peanut-related products, but one of my absolute favorites is “Mame Shibori.” It’s something I could eat every day—simple in both appearance and flavor, but perfectly balanced. If I didn’t have to worry about calories, I’d keep eating it non-stop.
As much as I adore Mame Shibori, I recently stopped by the souvenir section of Fusa no Eki, a roadside station-like store in Chiba. There, I tried a sample of “Peanut King,” and its flavor hit all the right notes for me, so I decided to buy it.
I purchased it at Fusa no Eki Yokoto branch.
Peanut King (Yamasu)
It was 1,000 yen for 14 pieces.
The bright yellow box features an illustration of a king with a bold, majestic expression.
The colors and design somehow give off a bit of a Lion King vibe, don’t they?
Outside the store, there were many flags with the Peanut King logo, and inside, the Peanut King theme song was playing.
Since they seemed to be promoting the newly released Peanut King heavily, I decided to buy it.
Each piece contains 79 calories.
The shelf life is about 90 days.
Opening the box reveals glossy yellow individual wrappers neatly lined up.
Each wrapper also features the Peanut King illustration.
It says that Chiba-grown peanuts are used.
There was a time when I bought a peanut snack at a roadside station, only to later notice in the ingredients list that it used peanuts from China… which was a bit disappointing. So, this makes me really happy.
I guess I shouldn’t have assumed they were using Chiba-grown peanuts just because it was a roadside station, but it’s easy to have that expectation. ^^;
The texture and flavor were exactly what I had hoped for—it’s so good I couldn’t stop eating!
There are nine peanuts with skins on top of the cookie.
Let’s dig in.
The cookie dough has a crunchy texture with a light sweetness.
The combination with the peanuts in their skins provides a delightful crunch. Since the overall sweetness is mild, the rich flavor of the peanuts really stands out.
As expected, Chiba-grown peanuts are bold and delicious.
The packaging has a strong impact and looks stylish, making it a great souvenir. The individually wrapped cookies with printed designs are perfect for sharing.
Since the peanuts might fall off, it’s a good idea to say, “Be careful, the peanuts can come loose!” when handing them out.
Peanut King, the new release made with luxurious Chiba-grown peanuts, offers great flavor, texture, substance, and packaging—truly deserving of the title “King.” But, I have to admit, it’s still a bit of a plain snack.
Highly recommended.
Thank you for the treat!
